The Denise D’Ascenzo Foundation provided over $60,000 to many throughout Connecticut. Including over $1000 in toys for the TEAM toy drive and $5,000 to Connecticut Children’s in support of their fetal care center that can provide fetal surgery to treat birth defects in the uterus.

Honoring Denise’s Legacy

Denise D’Ascenzo was the longest serving news anchor at any single Connecticut television station, with Channel 3 viewers welcoming her into their homes for over thirty-three years. During that time, viewers fell in love with her engaging personality, contagious laughter, and loving heart as she brought us the nightly news and her work earned her eleven Emmy Awards (including Best Anchor), two Edward R. Murrow Awards, seven Associated Press Awards, and the prestigious national Gabriel Award.

December 7, 2023, marked the 4th anniversary of Denise’s death. She was posthumously inducted into the Society of Professional Journalist’s Hall of Fame on December 6th. Even in death, the openness, bravery and kindness Denise brought to her broadcasts at WFSB and to those who knew her, continue to be acknowledged and promoted. Along with her journalistic excellence, Denise is equally remembered for her genuine kindness and tireless efforts on behalf of those facing life’s challenges. Whether it was co-hosting the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon; interviewing Paul Newman to launch his Hole-in-the-Wall-Gang camp; working on behalf of countless community organizations, including Mary’s Place and Hartford Hospital; or bringing viewers heartwarming stories about the triumph of the human spirit, Denise remained a constant source of light and compassion to all those she touched.

It is the mission of The Denise D’Ascenzo Foundation to continue Denise’s legacy of love and kindness by supporting advances in medicine and health, women’s and children’s issues, and journalism studies.
